Nickel-A-Dance: Norbert Susemihl's New Orleans Jazz & BluesNickel-A-Dance is a free, family-friendly jazz concert series in New Orleans, celebrating the city's rich musical heritage. Founded in 1994, it features top local jazz musicians performing classic jazz, blues, and swing. Originally held at Café Brasil on Frenchmen Street, the series now takes place at Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro on Sundays from 3:00--6:00 PM. The event is open to all ages and aims to make live jazz accessible to everyone. Norbert Susemihl is a trumpeter, vocalist, drummer, and bandleader who has spent more than four decades immersed in the traditions of New Orleans jazz. Born in Hamburg, Germany, Susemihl has maintained a second home in New Orleans since the 1970s, studying alongside legendary New Orleans musicians and developing a deep connection to the city's musical heritage. As a bandleader, he bridges traditional New Orleans jazz with contemporary influences, bringing his distinctive melodic approach to performances around the world. He has also helped introduce New Orleans musicians to European audiences through his Joyful Gumbo Jazz & Blues Band. Susemihl has recorded and produced more than 50 albums and recordings and was honored with the Louis Armstrong Memorial Award by the Swinging Hamburg Foundation in 2022.
