Led by Grammy-winning trombonist, composer, producer, and NEA Jazz Master Delfeayo Marsalis, the Uptown Jazz Orchestra is a powerhouse big band dedicated to keeping the rich traditions of New Orleans and American jazz alive while putting its own unmistakable spin on the music. Founded in 2007, the orchestra brings together a dynamic ensemble of trumpets, trombones, saxophones, rhythm section, and vocalists, combining classic big-band swing with New Orleans brass-band energy, funk, blues, R&B, and spontaneous collective improvisation. At the heart of the UJO sound is a deep connection to the New Orleans tradition---drawing inspiration from the swinging riff bands of Count Basie, the sophisticated arrangements of Duke Ellington, the adventurous spirit of Charles Mingus, and the dance-driven energy of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. This special performance honors Roger Lewis, a founding member of the Uptown Jazz Orchestra and one of New Orleans' most distinctive baritone saxophonists. In order to preserve the integrity, quiet and focus of our world class intimate concerts, only the charcuterie, cocktails and soft drinks are available for table service inside the Music Room. However, we encourage you to arrive at least 90 Minutes prior to your showtime in order to enjoy full, relaxing dinner service in the Dining Room right next door, before getting seated in the Music Room for your ticketed showtime.
